Popularity of the streaming company Netflix continues to rise as the service reached the mark of 80 million subscribers in 2016. However, their forecasts for further growth of subscribers in the second part of the year would most likely not be met.
Last quarter led to more than two million new subscribers of the service in the U.S., and their revenue went up to about 20% more than last year. Interestingly, Netflix stated that over 40 % of their streaming service subscribers come outside of USA.
The reason why Netflix will not meet their goals for the following quarter in 2016 is because of the weaker International subscription projections. The first quarter of 2016 was successful due to some extremely popular series such as “House of Cards” and “Daredevil”.
In the meantime, Amazon who are the biggest rivals to Netflix, have announced that the option for subscription for their Prime services such as original content, music library and free shipping will also include an option for a monthly subscription. Until now, Amazon`s prime services were available only for a one-year subscription of $99. The latest feature Prime Video will be a separate service for TV and Movie shows which will cost affordable $8.99 per month. They decided to take this popular step as they considered the fact that the Internet TV is the future of watching shows and movies. This should also lead to increased number of subscribers to their online services.
